Sean Rorke

Hot Bed Press

With the revolution of technology grasping the creative industries so tightly, it was a real pleasure to take time out last week and focus on craft once again. A massive thanks for Sean Rorke for coming in to Uniform to talk to us about printmaking.

Sean is the Artistic Director at Hot Bed Press, one of the largest open access print workshops in the region. Now in its 16th year, Hot Bed runs courses on traditional methods in letterpress & relief, screen printing and etching.

Although traditional printmaking is more of an art form these days, it has a quality unachievable by binary code and to get an insight into some of the interesting things happening at Hot Bed was fantastic.

Sean’s work has focused on degradation, graffiti and torn fly posters, creating screen prints from the collection of over 10,000 photographs Sean has accumulated over the years. The outcome is a fascinating collection of layers and textures, which has a real urban feel.
